• • Be the technical force-multiplier behind Double’s mission to rescue bookkeepers from spreadsheets and duct-taped project tools. As a Senior Staff Full Stack Engineer you will own the architecture and delivery of features that thousands of bookkeepers rely on every day to serve tens of thousands of small-business clients. Your code will turn hours of manual reconciliation into minutes of automated insight, and your product intuition will shape the future of a platform already trusted by Y Combinator and the founders of Lattice, Front, Superhuman, and Plaid.
• • Ship production-grade software weekly in a continuous-deployment environment. You will merge PRs behind feature flags, watch metrics in real time, and rollback or roll-forward with confidence. Expect to release meaningful improvements to our React/TypeScript frontend and Node.js backend every seven days, directly impacting how quickly bookkeepers can close their clients’ books.
• • Architect scalable data models and APIs that ingest, normalize, and surface financial transactions from bank feeds, accounting software, and manual uploads. You will design Postgres schemas that remain performant at 10× current volume, write TypeORM migrations that never lock tables during business hours, and craft GraphQL endpoints that let the frontend query exactly what it needs—no more, no less.
• • Influence user experience through product engineering. You will sit shoulder-to-shoulder with designers and PMs, prototyping interactions in Figma and turning them into pixel-perfect React components. When a new workflow feels clunky, you will propose and build a smoother alternative—whether that means pre-fetching data with React Query, debouncing keystrokes, or adding optimistic UI updates.
• • Lead cross-functional squads on high-impact epics such as “Error Detection Engine 2.0” or “Client Portal Re-architecture.” You will break epics into technical spikes, write RFCs that anticipate edge cases, and pair-program with mid-level engineers to raise the bar on code quality. Your pull-request reviews will be celebrated for both kindness and rigor.
• • Champion type safety across the stack. You will evangelize strict TypeScript configurations, codify shared types in a monorepo, and introduce zod schemas for runtime validation. When a junior engineer asks why an `any` slipped into the codebase, you will turn the moment into a lunch-and-learn on advanced generics.
• • Instrument everything. You will add OpenTelemetry traces to every critical path, surface custom metrics in Datadog, and set SLOs that keep page-load under 200 ms and API p95 latency under 500 ms. When alerts fire, you will debug distributed traces, identify the offending SQL query, and ship a fix before the next bookkeeping firm on the East Coast opens.
• • Mentor and level-up the broader engineering org. You will run weekly architecture office hours, create internal wikis on advanced React Query patterns, and sponsor engineers from under-represented groups. Your leadership will help Double double in size without doubling in chaos.
• • Contribute to open-source and the broader fintech community. Whether it is upstreaming a performance patch to TypeORM or speaking at React NYC about building financial UIs, you will represent Double as a thought leader.
• • Stay close to customers. You will join monthly “Bookkeeper Roundtables,” watch fullstory replays, and occasionally shadow a bookkeeper closing books at midnight on the 30th. These insights will guide your roadmap proposals and ensure every line of code serves a real human need.
