- • As a Senior/Staff/Principal Software Engineer at Skylight, you will design, implement, and maintain software systems that improve government services for the public and government partners, directly contributing to better public outcomes through technology.
- • You will engineer software products as part of a cross-functional team including UX researchers, designers, product managers, and other specialists, advocating for lean-agile practices such as API-first design, continuous integration, version control, and automated testing while selecting appropriate open-source tools and frameworks.
- • You will analyze systems to identify technical debt, instability, and unreliability, then design, document, and communicate solutions to improve performance, reliability, and availability while maintaining a user-centered approach.
- • You will work within Skylight’s mission-driven culture as a public interest technologist, helping government agencies deliver better services to families, patients, and the public, with opportunities to grow technically and professionally in a mission-aligned, remote-first environment.
🎯 Requirements
- • Ability to write clean, working, and reusable code
- • Familiarity with building secure, compliant software and defending against common vulnerabilities
- • Foundational understanding of data engineering and how to use various datastores for persistent data
- • Understanding of how software system components fit together while considering performance, reliability, and availability
- • Commitment to putting users at the center of your work and aligning with Skylight’s core values
- • Ability to travel as project needs arise and eligibility for U.S.-based work without sponsorship
- • Legally authorized to work in the U.S. now and in the future
- • Qualification for Tier 4 public trust or security clearance as a government contractor
