📋 Description

• Anchor distributed systems depth across Crusoe Cloud’s Managed Platform Services organization as a floating technical leader with no single domain ownership, ensuring platform-wide performance, scalability, and operational excellence.
• Own platform-wide performance engineering by establishing consistent benchmarks, identifying systemic bottlenecks (e.g., sharding gaps, concurrency issues, thundering herds), and driving scalable solutions before they become incidents.
• Ensure long-term architectural resiliency across all platform domains by embedding high availability, disaster recovery, graceful degradation, and fault isolation from the start — preventing one-way door decisions without full context.
• Set the standard for operational excellence by reducing on-call noise, automating repetitive tasks, building shared frameworks, and leading by example through direct participation in customer-facing on-call rotations.
• Serve as the senior distributed systems authority across multiple platform domains including Control Plane, Storage & State, Edge & Agents, Data Pipeline, and Async & Metering — providing oversight and technical guidance without owning any single domain.
• Influence technical decisions across adjacent infrastructure teams (Compute, Managed Orchestration, Networking) by building credibility and ensuring platform-level decisions are made with full organizational context.
• Collaborate directly with product and engineering leadership during ambiguous, early-stage roadmap scoping to define quarterly priorities, surface incremental milestones, and tie technical decisions to measurable business outcomes.
• Mentor senior engineers by introducing systems and frameworks that elevate team capability without requiring your direct involvement — enabling force multiplication and sustainable team growth.
• Identify early signs of burnout and cultivate a culture of psychological safety, collaboration, responsiveness, and excellence where it is safe to fail and wins are celebrated openly.
• Communicate with exemplary clarity: provide the right level of context concisely, check for understanding, and proactively keep leaders and stakeholders informed without being prompted.
• Maintain a strong sense of ownership and accountability — proactively stepping in wherever the team needs depth, prioritizing platform-wide impact over narrow domain expertise.
• Drive the elimination of recurring incidents by addressing root causes across org boundaries, not just responding to symptoms — building runbooks, tuning alerts, and systematically reducing operational noise.
• Contribute to technical decision-making with deep, hands-on expertise in distributed systems including sharding, replication, consensus, load balancing, and concurrency — having resolved complex, real-world scale problems.
• Demonstrate proficiency in Go or a modern compiled language, with a proven track record of performance engineering at the staff level and above — benchmarking, profiling, and optimizing systems to achieve 10x scale without accumulating technical debt.
• Act as a cultural anchor: remain enthusiastic, optimistic, and genuine in supporting team members, maintaining responsiveness that defines the team’s reputation, and leading by example in all interactions.

🎯 Requirements

• Deep, hands-on expertise designing and operating distributed systems at scale (sharding, replication, consensus, load balancing, concurrency)
• Proven track record of performance engineering impact at the staff level or above, with proficiency in Go or a modern compiled language (Go strongly preferred)
• Required on-call experience on a customer-facing team, with a history of systematically reducing incident noise through automation and root cause elimination
• Proven ability to influence technical decisions across org boundaries and resolve endemic problems spanning multiple teams
• Experience collaborating directly with product and engineering leadership to scope ambiguous problems, plan incremental delivery, and align technical work with business outcomes
• Demonstrated ability to mentor senior engineers by building systems and frameworks that uplevel the team without direct involvement
