- • The Senior Talent & Succession Program Manager at OpenAI will design and operationalize the Talent & Succession layer of the People Operating System, ensuring talent identification, differentiation, and investment are aligned with the company’s mission to scale responsibly while fostering an environment where every employee can thrive and contribute to AGI that benefits all of humanity.
- • This role is critical to building lightweight, scalable systems for talent reviews, succession planning, and critical role decisions that empower leaders and HRBPs to make high-quality, timely talent decisions without unnecessary complexity, directly supporting OpenAI’s rapid growth and innovative culture.
- • Day to day, the incumbent will own and evolve OpenAI’s talent review approach by designing practical, lightweight models that leaders and HRBPs can use effectively, including creating templates, decision trees, and guidance to reduce ambiguity and improve execution.
- • They will drive differentiation and talent decision quality by building clear frameworks for identifying top, critical, and developing talent, ensuring consistent, high-quality decisions across the organization through structured guidance and calibration support.
- • The role involves building bench and succession systems by developing scalable approaches to assess bench strength, succession readiness, and risk across critical roles, enabling proactive talent planning and risk mitigation.
- • They will define and maintain critical roles frameworks by partnering with leaders and HRBPs to identify key roles, single points of failure, and succession priorities, ensuring business continuity and leadership readiness.
- • The manager will translate talent philosophy into usable systems by converting strategy into concrete mechanisms — such as pre-work, guidance, and tools — that integrate seamlessly into the flow of work and improve execution speed and clarity.
- • They will pilot, learn, and iterate quickly by running targeted talent process pilots, gathering feedback from stakeholders, and refining approaches to enhance impact, speed, and user experience.
- • Deep partnership with HRBPs and People leaders is essential to co-design approaches that balance company-wide consistency with local flexibility, preserving HRBP ownership while ensuring alignment with enterprise talent goals.
- • Close integration with the Performance & Rewards team ensures talent decisions are connected to performance signals, while collaboration with Compensation and People Analytics aligns talent insights with rewards, equity, and data-driven insights.
- • The role emphasizes designing for scale and simplicity — building systems that increase rigor and signal quality while minimizing administrative burden for managers, leaders, and HRBPs, enabling sustainable talent processes as OpenAI scales.
- • The incumbent will operate as a peer to the Performance & Rewards lead, reporting to the Head of People Programs & Strategy, and contributing to a high-impact, evolving team that shapes how OpenAI supports its people through innovative, human-centered programs.
- • This role offers the opportunity to shape the future of talent management at a frontier AI company, gaining deep expertise in strategic HR systems design, change management, and organizational effectiveness in a high-growth, mission-driven environment.
- • The person in this role will achieve mastery in translating complex talent philosophy into practical, scalable solutions, while developing leadership and influence skills through cross-functional collaboration at the highest levels of the organization.
🎯 Requirements
- • 7+ years of experience in talent management, human resources, or related areas, preferably including experience in a fast-growing, early stage company context.
- • Proven experience designing and implementing talent systems — including talent review, differentiation, succession planning, and career progression — with a track record of translating strategy into simple, scalable, and usable solutions.
- • Strong understanding of talent management best practices and trends.
- • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of the organization.
- • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to both get into the details while also zooming out to view the entire ecosystem in context.
- • Proficiency with HRIS and talent management systems.
- • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
🏖️ Benefits
