- • Senior Tax Manager at Hopper Inc. responsible for end-to-end indirect tax compliance, reporting, and planning across North America, supporting the company’s rapid global growth and complex tax landscape.
- • Day-to-day responsibilities include managing U.S. and Canadian federal, state, and provincial tax filings, preparing R&D tax credit claims, coordinating with external advisors like Avalara, monitoring legislative changes, and collaborating with Finance, Legal, Product, and Engineering teams on tax-efficient product launches and system implementations.
- • Hopper is a fast-growing global travel marketplace and fintech platform powering travel booking and financial technology solutions for consumers and B2B partners like Capital One, Air Canada, and Nubank, with over 120 million app downloads and a strong Gen Z and millennial user base.
- • In this role, you will build scalable tax infrastructure in a high-growth environment, gain deep expertise in indirect and income tax compliance for digital marketplaces, and contribute to audit defense, tax provisioning under ASC 450 and ASC 740, and cross-functional tax strategy as Hopper expands into new territories.
🎯 Requirements
- • 4 to 7+ years of experience in U.S. state and local taxation, particularly transaction taxes for digital marketplaces, with a mix of public accounting (Big 4 or regional) and industry experience
- • Proven experience in Canadian indirect taxation (GST/HST/QST) and provincial income tax compliance
- • Solid understanding of ASC 450 and working knowledge of ASC 740
- • Hands-on experience collaborating with product and engineering teams on tax logic, automation, or system implementation
- • Experience with Avalara and NetSuite; advanced Excel proficiency required; SQL or Google BigQuery knowledge is a plus
- • CPA designation or Master’s in Taxation preferred; Bachelor’s in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
- • Experience in lodging or travel-related taxation is a strong asset
- • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment with a problem-solving mindset and ownership attitude
