Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • As a Site Reliability Engineer at Openevidence, you will be instrumental in architecting, building, and fortifying the mission-critical infrastructure that underpins our cutting-edge medical AI platform. This platform is relied upon by healthcare providers across the globe, making the reliability and performance of our systems paramount. This role offers a unique blend of significant technical scope and direct, tangible impact, with a primary focus on ensuring the systemic health, optimal performance, and operational efficiency of our entire production ecosystem.
- • You will join our highly skilled backend team, contributing directly to the architecture and scaling of our infrastructure. A core aspect of your contribution will be the application of the Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) philosophy to systematically reduce manual operational tasks (toil), enhance system observability, and establish robust Service Level Objectives (SLOs) across all our services and data platforms. This proactive approach ensures that our systems not only function but excel under demanding conditions.
- • You will be empowered with considerable autonomy to make critical architectural decisions and spearhead initiatives that span performance optimization, infrastructure design, security enhancements, and the intricate data pipelines that handle sensitive medical data at an immense scale. This level of ownership means your work will directly influence the robustness and scalability of our healthcare solutions.
- • We are actively seeking a backend expert who not only possesses deep technical knowledge but also thrives in a focused, fast-paced startup environment. This setting demands a commitment to technical excellence coupled with the agility to iterate rapidly. Your ability to translate complex business objectives into elegant, efficient technical solutions will be highly valued, and you will work in close collaboration with engineering leadership.
- • The ideal candidate will have a demonstrable track record of successfully building and scaling production systems. You should possess a deep understanding of system design principles and be energized by the unique challenges of constructing healthcare infrastructure. This infrastructure must meet the dual demands of being highly innovative, pushing the boundaries of medical AI, while simultaneously maintaining an exceptionally high level of reliability and security.
- • Key responsibilities will include the design and implementation of automated, low-toil operational practices aimed at ensuring system health, peak performance, and scalability. This directly embodies the SRE mindset of engineering reliability into systems.
- • You will actively engage in the end-to-end design, development, and deployment of production software. A critical focus will be on ensuring that reliability and performance are baked into the software from its inception, rather than being an afterthought.
- • You will take ownership of, operate, and continuously optimize key backend services and resources. This includes databases, caching layers, and load balancers, with a mandate to drive measurable improvements in system efficiency and speed.
- • A significant part of the role involves leading continuous risk mitigation efforts, managing incident response effectively, and conducting blameless postmortems. These postmortems are crucial for learning from incidents and enhancing overall system resilience.
- • You will collaborate closely with engineering and product teams to translate platform requirements into robust technical execution. Furthermore, you will contribute strategically to the overall product direction, ensuring that our technical infrastructure aligns with and enables our product vision.
- • This role includes participation in an on-call escalation rotation, estimated to be approximately one week per month, primarily during US daylight hours. This ensures continuous support for our critical systems.
- • The role requires a proactive engagement with development teams to influence software design and operational practices, fostering a culture of shared responsibility for reliability.
- • You will be expected to manage risks effectively, make sound decisions under pressure, and exhibit excellent judgment in all aspects of your work.
- • This position is ideal for someone who is motivated, driven, and capable of operating independently within a dynamic team structure, contributing significantly to the success of Openevidence.
🎯 Requirements
- • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or a related technical field.
- • Minimum of 4 years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong emphasis on backend systems.
- • A firm grasp of the SRE philosophy and mindset, demonstrated through practical experience working on or directly with SRE teams that have proactively engaged in system design and improvement.
- • Proven ability to manage risk, make critical decisions, and exhibit sound judgment in complex technical environments.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Competitive salary and equity package.
- • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance.
- • Generous paid time off and holidays.
- • Opportunity to work on a mission-driven product impacting healthcare.
- • Remote work flexibility with occasional travel for team meetups.
