- • Own the end-to-end reliability of Cape’s privacy-first cellular network, from the 5G core to the edge devices in customers’ pockets. You’ll design, build, and run the infrastructure that keeps millions of encrypted packets flowing securely every second.
- • Architect and maintain multi-region, multi-cloud (AWS-first) platforms that achieve 99.99 % availability while handling real-time telecom signaling, media traffic, and cryptographic workloads. You’ll decide when to automate, when to refactor, and when to roll back—balancing speed, cost, and resilience.
- • Instrument everything. Deploy Prometheus, Grafana, Alertmanager, and custom Rust/Go exporters so anomalies are caught before users notice. Build SLIs/SLOs that map directly to customer trust and privacy guarantees.
- • Lead the FedRAMP High accreditation journey: translate NIST 800-53 controls into Terraform modules, write compliance-as-code pipelines, and shepherd the system through continuous ATO renewals. Your dashboards will be the single source of truth for auditors and executives alike.
- • Integrate bleeding-edge mobile technologies—IMS cores, 5G UPFs, eSIM provisioning, and zero-trust device tunnels—into a cohesive, observable stack. You’ll often be the first engineer to run these protocols at consumer scale.
- • Champion chaos engineering and game-day drills. Break staging on purpose, then harden production so nation-state actors and everyday misconfigurations bounce off without a blip.
- • Collaborate in person in our New York office 3–4 days a week. Whiteboard sessions at 9 a.m. can turn into production pushes by 5 p.m.; the tight feedback loop is how we move faster than carriers ten times our size.
- • Mentor junior engineers and shape the SRE culture. Define on-call rotations that are humane yet rigorous, write postmortems that read like detective stories, and codify best practices in living runbooks.
- • Influence product strategy. When the CEO asks, “Can we ship end-to-end encrypted voice tomorrow?” you’ll run capacity models, cost projections, and risk matrices to give a data-backed answer.
- • Leave the codebase better than you found it. Refactor brittle bash into tested Go operators, replace snowflake VMs with immutable AMIs, and delete more YAML than you write.
🎯 Requirements
- • 4+ years of software engineering or SRE experience with at least 2 years owning production-grade, high-availability systems
- • Expert-level AWS fluency (EC2, EKS, RDS, IAM, CloudFormation/Terraform) and proficiency in Go, Rust, Java/Kotlin, or Python
- • Demonstrated experience designing monitoring stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, Alertmanager, or similar) and driving measurable reliability improvements
- • Track record of shepherding systems through compliance frameworks such as FedRAMP, SOC 2, or ISO 27001
- • Nice-to-have: hands-on work with 4G/5G mobile core components (IMS, UPF, SMF), multi-cloud (Azure/GCP), or chaos engineering tooling
