- • Productize machine-learning workflows by collaborating with researchers to transform inference, fine-tuning, and data-processing tasks into robust, repeatable Python services with clean, well-defined APIs.
- • Design and own service-layer components that serve as the single source of truth for business logic, callable from both the web application and orchestration workflows, with structured inputs and outputs.
- • Implement secure-by-design backend practices by enforcing authorization and access scoping at the service layer, ensuring sensitive data handling is correct, auditable, and not reliant on UI-level controls.
- • Guard against silent failures in ML-driven services and improve their robustness, observability, and usability through systematic monitoring, logging, and error handling.
- • Contribute to API design principles including versioning, long-term stability, and usability, ensuring services remain maintainable and scalable over time.
- • Participate in design discussions and code reviews to foster a culture of high-quality, thoughtful engineering and knowledge sharing across the team.
- • Build and maintain backend systems using Python with modern tooling (uv, pixi) and FastAPI, isolating business logic from transport layers for clarity and testability.
- • Integrate with relational databases (PostgreSQL) and object storage (S3) to support structured data persistence and scalable storage of model artifacts and datasets.
- • Work with workflow orchestration tools (e.g., Prefect) to coordinate complex ML pipelines and GPU-backed compute environments for training and inference workloads.
- • Deploy and manage containerized services on AWS (ECS and related services) using infrastructure-as-code and automated CI/CD pipelines.
- • Apply agentic coding tools (e.g., Claude Code) as part of daily development to enhance productivity and code quality.
- • Ensure compliance readiness by incorporating data governance practices and auditability features aligned with frameworks such as ISO/IEC 27001.
- • Maintain comprehensive documentation for services, APIs, and data flows to support onboarding, troubleshooting, and cross-team collaboration.
- • Work within a distributed, collaborative team environment requiring strong written communication and alignment across technical and scientific stakeholders.
🎯 Requirements
- • Strong Python engineering skills and experience building/operating production backend systems.
- • Experience productionizing ML or scientific computing systems, including inference, training/fine-tuning pipelines, or data workflows.
- • Demonstrated experience building secure systems with authentication, authorization, access control, and careful handling of sensitive data.
- • Experience with relational databases and well-structured service architectures (FastAPI or similar).
- • Strong engineering practices in observability, documentation, and maintainability.
- • Familiarity with data governance and compliance frameworks (e.g., ISO/IEC 27001) and security practices like threat modeling, preferred.
