📋 Description

• As a Sourcer for Forward Deployment Engineering at OpenAI, you will play a critical role in identifying and engaging top technical talent to support the company’s mission of building safe artificial general intelligence (AGI) that benefits all of humanity. Your work will directly impact OpenAI’s ability to recruit exceptional individuals who align with its values and contribute to advancing AI safety and innovation.
• You will partner closely with hiring managers and recruiters within the Forward Deployed Engineering (FDE) team to design and execute targeted sourcing strategies, manage the full candidate lifecycle from initial outreach to onsite interview coordination, and ensure a high-touch, exceptional candidate experience that reflects OpenAI’s commitment to excellence and inclusivity.
• Your day-to-day responsibilities will include building highly targeted candidate searches using advanced Boolean logic and talent mapping techniques, crafting personalized outreach messages to engage passive candidates, and maintaining long-term relationships with high-priority talent through consistent, thoughtful engagement.
• You will utilize non-traditional sourcing strategies such as attending industry events, participating in technical challenges (e.g., https://challenge.openai.com), and leveraging community networks to uncover hidden talent pools, while also representing OpenAI at conferences and meetups to strengthen employer brand presence.
• You will take a data-driven approach to pipeline management, tracking key metrics in your ATS (such as Ashby) to monitor sourcing effectiveness, conversion rates, and stakeholder responsiveness, continuously optimizing processes based on insights and feedback.
• You will collaborate cross-functionally with recruiting coordinators, hiring managers, and sourcing peers to improve recruitment workflows, share best practices, and contribute to special projects aimed at scaling OpenAI’s hiring capabilities globally.
• You will act as the primary point of contact for candidates from first touch through the onsite interview stage, ensuring timely communication, feedback collection, and a seamless experience that reinforces OpenAI’s reputation as a mission-driven, candidate-centric organization.
• You will support the broader Recruiting team’s goal of setting a new standard for innovation and thoughtfulness in tech hiring, helping to attract diverse, world-class talent capable of tackling some of the most complex challenges in AI development and deployment.

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in technical sourcing, with proven success sourcing for roles such as forward deployed engineers, software engineers, machine learning engineers, or AI engineers
• Demonstrated ability to build highly targeted search strategies and deliver consistent candidate volume while maintaining high responsiveness and care for both candidates and hiring stakeholders
• Proficiency with modern recruitment tools including Ashby, LinkedIn Recruiter, and other ATS and sourcing platforms to manage pipelines and track metrics effectively
