- • As a Sourcer for Forward Deployment Engineering at OpenAI, you will play a critical role in identifying and engaging top technical talent to support the company’s mission of building safe artificial general intelligence (AGI) that benefits all of humanity. Your work will directly impact OpenAI’s ability to recruit exceptional individuals who align with its values and drive innovation in AI research and deployment.
- • You will partner closely with hiring managers and recruiters within the Forward Deployed Engineering (FDE) team to design and execute targeted sourcing strategies, manage the full candidate lifecycle from initial outreach to onsite interview coordination, and ensure a seamless, high-touch candidate experience that reflects OpenAI’s commitment to excellence and inclusivity.
- • Day to day, you will: build highly targeted Boolean and semantic searches using LinkedIn Recruiter, Ashby, and other sourcing tools to identify passive and active candidates with expertise in forward deployed engineering, software engineering, machine learning, and AI systems; craft personalized outreach messages that resonate with technical professionals and drive engagement; maintain long-term relationships with high-priority talent through consistent touchpoints, talent mapping, and market intelligence; represent OpenAI at technical conferences, meetups, and virtual events to expand talent pipelines and employer brand presence; utilize creative sourcing tactics such as engaging with open-source contributors, hackathon participants, and challenge platforms like https://challenge.openai.com; track and analyze sourcing metrics in Ashby to monitor pipeline health, conversion rates, and time-to-fill, making data-informed adjustments to strategy; collaborate with recruiting coordinators to schedule interviews and provide feedback loops to hiring managers; and contribute to cross-functional recruiting initiatives aimed at improving process efficiency and candidate experience globally.

🎯 Requirements
- • 5+ years of experience in technical sourcing, specifically for roles such as forward deployed engineers, software engineers, machine learning engineers, or AI engineers
- • Proven ability to deliver high volumes of qualified candidates while maintaining exceptional responsiveness and care for both candidates and hiring managers
- • Demonstrated track record of identifying and engaging top 1% talent in competitive technical markets
- • Proficiency with modern ATS platforms (e.g., Ashby) and sourcing tools including LinkedIn Recruiter, GitHub, and other talent discovery platforms
- • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with global stakeholders and diverse technical audiences
- • Strong organizational skills and a data-driven mindset, with experience tracking sourcing metrics and optimizing funnel performance
