- • Coordinate and perform professional billing activities in Epic, including notify, consent, and good faith estimates for scheduled self-pay services, uninsured patients, and patients with non-contracted plans in compliance with the No Surprise Billing Act (NSBA).
- • Utilize Epic Work Queues (WQs), reports, and modules to identify and verify non-contracted insurance coverage assignments and determine patient payment responsibility.
- • Complete the good faith estimate process in Epic for scheduled services involving self-pay, uninsured, or out-of-network patients in designated clinical settings.
- • Communicate directly with patients to obtain pre-service payments and ensure timely collection prior to scheduled appointments.
- • Collaborate with divisional, clinical, and scheduling teams to manage the Epic referral triage process and coordinate pre-arrival, pre-certification, and WUPN staff efforts.
- • Secure out-of-network authorizations and single case agreements for patients with non-contracted plans; cancel services if authorization cannot be obtained.
- • Serve as the primary liaison between physicians, clinical staff, department administrators, patients, and affiliated hospital systems to coordinate notify, consent, signature, estimate delivery, OON authorization, and single case agreement processes.
- • Routinely interact with internal teams to ensure accurate documentation and compliance with federal and institutional billing regulations.
- • Process applicable pre-service payments and follow up on outstanding balances related to non-contracted insurance scenarios.
- • Maintain confidentiality of patient data and adhere to all HIPAA and institutional privacy standards during billing and collections activities.
- • Perform other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the Business Office within the Department of Medicine.
🎯 Requirements
- • High school diploma or equivalent
- • 5 years of experience in billing or insurance
- • Proficiency in Epic EHR system (WQs, reports, modules)
- • Strong understanding of medical billing regulations including the No Surprise Billing Act
- • Experience handling self-pay, uninsured, and out-of-network patient billing scenarios
- • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, clinicians, and administrative staff
