Full Job Description

📋 Description

  • • As a Senior Staff Vehicle Controls Engineer at Ridealso Inc., you will be at the forefront of designing and developing groundbreaking electric vehicle control systems. This pivotal role offers the opportunity to own the entire software development lifecycle, from initial concept and sophisticated modeling to rigorous validation and final release. You will be instrumental in shaping the future of small electric vehicles, contributing to a mission that aims to revolutionize local transportation by offering more affordable, enjoyable, and significantly more efficient alternatives to traditional cars, trucks, and SUVs.
  • • Your responsibilities will encompass defining and leading the architecture and development of critical vehicle control systems. This includes advanced motion management, dynamic stability control, and a suite of related vehicle control functions essential for safe and efficient operation. You will take ownership of system-level control strategies, meticulously defining interfaces across diverse engineering domains: controls, firmware, electrical, and the vehicle itself. This holistic approach ensures seamless integration and optimal performance.
  • • A core aspect of your role will involve the development and guidance of sophisticated control algorithms and state estimators. These are crucial for a wide array of vehicle control applications, ensuring precise and responsive handling. You will be responsible for defining key handling metrics, designing objective maneuvers for testing, and establishing robust performance evaluation methodologies. This ensures that our vehicles not only meet but exceed industry standards for performance and safety.
  • • To support these efforts, you will build and maintain high-fidelity simulation models. These models are vital for validating estimators, observers, and control solutions in a virtual environment before they are implemented in physical hardware. Furthermore, you will guide the development of advanced state estimation and sensor fusion approaches. This includes the seamless integration of data from various sensors such as Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs), GPS, and Wheel Speed Sensors (WSS), providing a comprehensive understanding of the vehicle's state.
  • • You will define the control architecture for potentially distributed or multi-controller systems, ensuring that the design is scalable and adaptable across future vehicle programs. This forward-thinking approach is crucial for long-term product development and efficiency.
  • • Proactively identifying technical risks early in the development process is a key responsibility. You will drive the implementation of effective mitigation strategies across all relevant programs, safeguarding project timelines and product quality.
  • • Your role extends to driving system-level integration and resolving complex issues that may arise across the software, firmware, and vehicle domains. This requires a deep understanding of interdependencies and a collaborative problem-solving approach.
  • • As a Senior Staff Engineer, you will provide significant technical leadership and mentorship to the controls team. This includes actively reviewing architecture designs and algorithm developments, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.
  • • Finally, you will be a champion for continuous improvement, driving enhancements in our controls development workflows, tools, and automation processes. This ensures that Ridealso remains at the cutting edge of vehicle control technology and development efficiency.
