Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Own the end-to-end vision for Blip’s global data architecture, translating business strategy into scalable, secure, and AI-ready data platforms that serve 200+ internal teams and process 10+ petabytes of streaming telemetry every month.
- • Design and govern a multi-region, multi-cloud data lakehouse on AWS, GCP, and Azure that unifies structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data sources, ensuring sub-second query latency for real-time analytics while maintaining 99.99 % availability.
- • Establish enterprise-grade data modeling standards, metadata management, and lineage frameworks that empower data scientists, ML engineers, and product teams to discover, trust, and reuse datasets without manual intervention.
- • Lead architectural reviews and provide hands-on mentorship to 25+ senior and staff-level engineers, instilling best practices in distributed computing, stream processing, and privacy-preserving technologies such as differential privacy and federated learning.
- • Partner with C-suite, product, and security leadership to translate regulatory requirements (GDPR, CCPA, PCI-DSS) into technical controls, ensuring every data asset is classified, encrypted, and audited from ingestion through archival.
- • Spearhead the migration of legacy on-prem Spark clusters to a Kubernetes-native, lakehouse architecture that reduces infrastructure cost by 30 % and accelerates experiment iteration from weeks to hours.
- • Champion a data-as-a-product mindset by creating reusable domain-oriented data marts, self-service APIs, and semantic layers that cut dashboard creation time by 50 % and democratize insights across marketing, finance, and customer success.
- • Architect real-time anomaly detection and data-quality pipelines using Kafka, Flink, and Great Expectations, automatically quarantining bad records and alerting owners within five minutes of drift detection.
- • Collaborate with AI research teams to design feature stores that support both batch and online inference at 5 ms p99 latency, enabling personalized recommendations and fraud detection models that drive $100 M+ in incremental revenue.
- • Define and track architecture KPIs—data freshness, cost per query, pipeline reliability, and developer productivity—presenting quarterly progress to the board and iterating based on empirical feedback.
- • Create and maintain a living architecture decision record (ADR) repository, ensuring every technology choice, from Iceberg vs. Delta to Snowflake vs. BigQuery, is justified, versioned, and accessible to future contributors.
- • Foster an inclusive, remote-first culture of architectural excellence by hosting weekly design guilds, brown-bag sessions, and open RFC reviews that encourage dissent, experimentation, and continuous learning.
🎯 Requirements
- • 10+ years designing and operating petabyte-scale data platforms in production, with deep expertise in distributed storage, compute, and stream-processing technologies (Spark, Flink, Kafka, Iceberg, Delta, or equivalent).
- • Proven track record of leading cross-functional architecture initiatives that deliver measurable business impact—e.g., cost reduction, latency improvement, or revenue growth—across multiple cloud providers.
- • Expert-level proficiency in SQL, Python, and Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, CDK, or Pulumi) with hands-on experience containerizing workloads on Kubernetes and orchestrating via Airflow or Dagster.
- • Demonstrated ability to translate complex regulatory and privacy constraints into technical controls, including encryption, tokenization, and fine-grained access policies (RBAC/ABAC).
- • Nice-to-have: Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, published papers on data systems, or contributions to open-source projects such as Apache Iceberg, Kafka, or Flink.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Fully remote-first culture with quarterly off-sites in destinations like Lisbon, Mexico City, and Tokyo, plus a $2,000 annual travel stipend to visit teammates anywhere in the world.
- • Competitive base salary plus equity in a high-growth, profitable company, with refresh grants and a 10-year exercise window.
- • Flexible PTO policy (minimum 20 days) plus company-wide mental health days and a $1,500 annual wellness allowance for gym, therapy, or mindfulness apps.
- • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage for you and dependents, plus a $5,000 annual learning budget for conferences, courses, and certifications.
