📋 Description

• Serve as the technical steward and platform architect for both Consumer Fraud and Business Fraud engineering teams, unifying platform strategy across multiple teams.
• Architect, design, and optimize ultra-low-latency backend services and a high-throughput rules engine that processes massive volumes of real-time data.
• Design optimal data access patterns, partitioning strategies, and caching layers across a complex, multi-cloud database ecosystem.
• Develop robust data pipelines for massive parallel execution of real-time feature computations and aggregations.
• Drive technical strategy and infrastructure optimization for mission-critical fraud prevention systems used by 300+ banks, retailers, and fintechs globally.
• Mentor senior engineers and shape engineering culture by setting and upholding high technical standards from conception to delivery.
• Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to align platform roadmap with business objectives in fraud prevention and AML compliance.
• Ensure system reliability, observability, and developer velocity through platform engineering best practices.
• Communicate complex architectural concepts clearly to drive cross-team consensus and technical alignment.
• Operate with extreme ownership over a platform that prevents identity fraud, payment fraud, account takeovers, and social engineering scams.
• Work in a remote-first environment with the flexibility to work from home, beach, mountain, or cafe — while maintaining occasional in-person meetings with leadership in San Francisco and Berkeley.
• Contribute to a globally distributed team with hubs in the Bay Area, NYC, Austin, Toronto, and São Paulo, while operating under a performance-over-hours culture.
• Support the evolution of a fraud prevention platform powered by device intelligence, behavior biometrics, machine learning, and AI.

🎯 Requirements

• 7+ years of software engineering experience with a proven track record at Staff, Principal, or Lead Architect level
• Deep expertise in building highly available, distributed systems with strict ultra-low latency requirements
• Hands-on experience with stream processing frameworks (e.g., Kafka, Flink, SQS, PubSub) in production environments
• Advanced proficiency in polyglot persistence, including tuning data models across Document, Wide-Column, and Relational databases
• Strong platform engineering mindset focused on reliability, observability, and developer velocity
• Proficiency in communicating complex architectural concepts and driving cross-team consensus
