Full Job Description
📋 Description
- • Join ALSO, an innovative electric mobility company born from Rivian, and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of urban transportation. We are a dynamic team of innovators dedicated to creating unique, vertically integrated, small electric vehicles designed to address global mobility challenges. Our mission is to inspire a shift towards more affordable, enjoyable, and significantly more efficient local travel by replacing traditional car, truck, and SUV miles with our advanced electric vehicles.
- • As a Staff Power Electronics Engineer, you will be at the forefront of developing cutting-edge electronics systems for our diverse range of micromobility platforms. This is a critical role where you will directly own the execution of power conversion PCBA development, encompassing the entire lifecycle from initial design and rigorous development through comprehensive validation and successful production ramp-up.
- • Your primary focus will be on the design of highly integrated and cost-effective power electronic systems. You will be responsible for systems operating within the 48–100 V range, handling peak power outputs of 1–10 kW. This involves deep technical expertise in power conversion topologies, component selection, and thermal management to ensure optimal performance and reliability in demanding urban environments.
- • A key aspect of your role will involve working closely with actuation systems, requiring familiarity with common sensors such as encoders, resolvers, Hall-effect sensors, and inductive sensors. You will ensure seamless integration and accurate feedback for motor control and vehicle dynamics.
- • You will be instrumental in planning and managing project timelines, defining development steps, allocating test resources, and overseeing contract manufacturer End-of-Line (EOL) activities. This requires strong project management skills and the ability to coordinate complex engineering efforts.
- • Collaboration is central to this role. You will partner with systems engineering to meticulously author and ratify product requirements, ensuring alignment on cost targets, performance benchmarks, reliability standards, and regulatory compliance. Your input will be crucial in defining the technical foundation of our products.
- • You will conduct in-depth simulations, analyses, and validations of critical power electronic circuits. This includes performing worst-case circuit analysis (WCCA) to predict and mitigate potential failure modes, and defining corresponding validation strategies to ensure robustness.
- • Your responsibilities will extend to specifying and selecting critical components, including power switches like MOSFETs, GaN, and SiC devices. You will also be responsible for schematic capture and layout of power electronics, control circuits, and auxiliary systems, ensuring high-quality and manufacturable designs.
- • Close collaboration with the mechanical engineering team will be essential for sensor selection, design integration, and validation of mechanical components impacting the power electronics system. You will also work hand-in-hand with firmware and controls teams to ensure seamless hardware integration and the implementation of sophisticated control strategies.
- • You will engage with functional safety experts to identify necessary diagnostics and protection circuits, delivering robust design implementations that meet stringent safety standards.
- • Compiling detailed DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) and PFMEA (Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) documents, along with comprehensive validation plans, will be a core part of your contribution to product quality and reliability.
- • You will actively participate in hands-on integration and testing activities. This includes directing and collaborating with test engineers and external resources, such as certification laboratories and contract manufacturers, to ensure products meet all specifications and regulatory requirements.
- • Support for critical testing phases, including thermal, Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC), reliability, and Noise, Vibration, and Harshness (NVH) testing, will be required to validate the overall system performance.
- • By working collaboratively with mechanical, controls, and firmware peers, you will contribute to the successful execution of complete, integrated system solutions that define the user experience and performance of our electric vehicles.
- • You will be expected to provide clear and concise status updates during program meetings and to leadership, ensuring transparency and alignment across the organization.
