📋 Description

• As the Staff Site Reliability Engineer for Project Volcano, you will serve as the founding reliability voice for Kong's internal developer platform, directly influencing the scalability and resilience of Kong's next-generation developer ecosystem.
• You will own end-to-end reliability for Volcano by defining SLOs, error budgets, and incident response practices; architecting multi-region Kubernetes infrastructure; building GitOps and CI/CD pipelines with ArgoCD, Helm, and Terraform; scaling managed PostgreSQL, Redis, and object storage; driving observability with Datadog, Prometheus, and Grafana; leading cross-functional reliability initiatives with OCTO, product, and security teams; mentoring engineers on SRE principles; and evaluating emerging technologies like edge runtimes, serverless compute, vector databases, and AI-native infrastructure.
• You will join Kong Inc., a leader in API and AI connectivity technologies trusted by Fortune 500 companies and startups, working within the Office of the CTO (OCTO) on a strategic initiative to build Volcano—a greenfield internal developer platform offering on-demand preview environments, edge deployments, managed databases, auth, realtime, and storage APIs deeply integrated with Kong products.
• In this role, you will have the opportunity to shape SRE culture from the ground up, establish reliability standards across engineering teams, lead blameless postmortems, define on-call practices, and gain deep experience in platform engineering for a high-visibility, high-impact product serving Kong’s global customer base.

🎯 Requirements

• BS in Computer Science or equivalent; substantial experience at Staff or Principal IC level in SRE/Platform Engineering
• Proven track record building SRE or platform engineering practices for developer-facing platforms or PaaS/SaaS products, ideally at greenfield stage
• Deep Kubernetes expertise: multi-tenant cluster design, networking (CNI, service mesh, ingress), autoscaling, and security hardening
