• As a Staff Software Engineer on the Flink Platform team, your day-to-day responsibilities will be multifaceted and impactful. You will be at the forefront of developing sophisticated control plane services that meticulously orchestrate the entire lifecycle of Flink jobs, from initial submission and dynamic scaling to seamless recovery. This involves building and managing Kubernetes operators and orchestrators, enabling serverless resource management that is both efficient and scalable. A significant part of your role will be designing and implementing robust APIs that govern job management, ensure multi-tenancy, and enforce strict isolation between different users and applications. You will embrace a holistic development approach, taking full ownership of the code quality, comprehensive test coverage, clear documentation, and long-term maintainability of the components you and your team develop. This includes not only writing high-quality code but also actively participating in the design process, drafting architectural blueprints, engaging in constructive technical discussions, and curating decisions with a diverse group of stakeholders. Your contributions will directly influence the reliability and scalability of our Flink platform.
• Beyond individual contributions, you will be an integral part of the Flink Platform team's operational rhythm. This includes actively maintaining and improving team processes, taking the lead in team meetings, and proactively identifying and initiating improvements where opportunities arise. You will also participate in on-call rotations, ensuring the continuous availability and performance of our critical systems. Furthermore, a key aspect of this senior role involves mentoring other engineers. You will guide and support engineers with less experience in control plane architecture, helping them integrate into the community and understand the intricacies of serverless Apache Flink. Your expertise will be invaluable in nurturing the growth of junior developers and fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous learning within the team. This mentorship component is crucial for scaling our engineering capabilities and ensuring the long-term success of our projects.

🎯 Requirements

• 10+ years of relevant software development experience.
• Deep knowledge of distributed systems orchestration, including experience with Kubernetes, control loops, and building high-scale control planes, API servers, or cloud-native infrastructure. Familiarity with containerization, networking, and resource isolation is also essential.
• Proven ability to translate complex requirements into effective, scalable software solutions, demonstrating strong problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across diverse engineering teams.
