Staff Software Engineer - Backend Canada

📋 Description

• • Architect and lead the development of Cyngn’s next-generation, cloud-native fleet management SaaS platform that orchestrates hundreds of autonomous forklifts and tuggers across factories and warehouses in real time. You will own the technical vision from whiteboard to production, ensuring the system scales to tens of thousands of connected vehicles and terabytes of daily sensor data.
• • Design and implement resilient, distributed microservices that ingest, process, and act on high-frequency telemetry streams in under 100 ms end-to-end. Your code will directly influence how safely and efficiently our robots move pallets, route through aisles, and coordinate with human workers on the floor.
• • Build secure, versioned APIs and SDKs that allow external warehouse management systems (WMS), ERPs, and custom client dashboards to integrate seamlessly with our platform. You will define standards, write documentation, and support third-party developers who rely on your interfaces to automate their operations.
• • Create intelligent algorithms for dynamic task scheduling, multi-vehicle route optimization, and predictive maintenance. These algorithms will reduce customer downtime, lower energy consumption, and unlock new revenue streams through data-driven insights.
• • Establish real-time communication channels using WebSockets, MQTT, and gRPC to guarantee sub-second command delivery from cloud to edge. You will design fallback mechanisms that gracefully degrade when connectivity is intermittent in industrial environments.
• • Champion reliability and security by instituting chaos testing, zero-downtime deployments, and end-to-end encryption. You will ensure SOC 2 and ISO 27001 compliance while maintaining 99.9 % uptime SLAs for mission-critical operations.
• • Lead a cross-functional squad of backend, DevOps, and data engineers. Through pair programming, design reviews, and weekly tech talks, you will cultivate a culture of code quality, observability, and continuous learning.
• • Collaborate daily with product managers, UX designers, and field operations to translate customer pain points into elegant technical solutions. You will travel (virtually or on-site) to warehouses to observe robots in action and gather first-hand feedback.
• • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, providing career roadmaps, performance feedback, and hands-on coaching. Your leadership will shape the next generation of technical leaders at Cyngn.
• • Drive the entire software development lifecycle—from ideation and architecture through CI/CD, automated testing, and post-deployment monitoring—using GitOps, Terraform, and Kubernetes on AWS or GCP.
• • Engage directly with enterprise customers during technical workshops and QBRs, translating complex technical capabilities into clear business value and influencing the product roadmap.
