- • OpenAI is seeking a highly analytical and strategically-minded finance professional to join our dynamic Strategic Finance team, focusing on the financial performance of our B2B products and Go-To-Market (GTM) functions. This pivotal role offers a unique opportunity to influence the financial trajectory of cutting-edge AI products and initiatives, operating at the critical intersection of strategy, finance, and technology.
- • As a Strategic Finance partner, you will be instrumental in guiding the financial planning and operational execution for OpenAI's burgeoning B2B business. This involves a comprehensive approach to financial management, encompassing revenue forecasting, compute and gross margin optimization, and operating expense (opex) control across annual budgets, rolling forecasts, and long-range planning horizons.
- • You will be responsible for establishing and meticulously managing a suite of key performance indicators (KPIs) designed to measure critical aspects of the B2B business. These metrics will span topline product performance, the underlying unit economics, sales team productivity, and the efficiency of our compute resources, ensuring a data-driven approach to performance evaluation.
- • A core responsibility will be to analyze complex financial and operational trends, distilling them into actionable insights that inform both strategic decision-making and day-to-day execution. This requires a keen ability to identify patterns, understand root causes, and translate findings into clear recommendations for business leaders.
- • You will play a key role in building and scaling Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) rigor within the organization. This includes refining forecasting methodologies, developing robust management reporting frameworks, and crafting compelling performance narratives that foster accountability among leaders and accelerate decision-making velocity.
- • The role involves active support for strategic initiatives that are crucial for growth and market penetration. This includes contributing to pricing strategies, structuring complex deals, and developing comprehensive business cases for new growth opportunities and product launches, ensuring financial viability and strategic alignment.
- • You will own the end-to-end financial management of designated budgets, ensuring that resources are allocated efficiently and that proactive measures are taken to address any variances from plan. This requires diligent oversight and a commitment to fiscal responsibility.
- • A significant aspect of the role involves delivering high-quality presentations to executive leadership and the Board of Directors. These presentations will communicate financial performance, highlight key insights, and articulate strategic recommendations, thereby influencing key business stakeholders and shaping the company's direction.
- • You will be expected to stay abreast of market dynamics, competitive landscapes, and emerging trends within the AI and B2B technology sectors to proactively shape OpenAI’s B2B strategy and identify new opportunities.
- • This position is based in San Francisco, CA, operating under a hybrid work model requiring three days per week in the office. OpenAI offers relocation assistance to support new employees transitioning to the area.
- • The Strategic Finance team is dedicated to providing essential financial insights and guidance that underpin OpenAI’s ambitious long-term goals and overarching strategies. We foster close partnerships across all business functions to ensure that resources are strategically allocated and deployed for maximum impact and alignment with company objectives.
- • Within the broader Strategic Finance function, our specific team is tasked with overseeing the financial health and performance of our B2B products and GTM operations. Our primary objective is to maintain tight alignment between established financial objectives and the company's strategic imperatives, ensuring that financial activities directly support and enable the achievement of our mission.
- • We collaborate closely with leaders across Product Management, Go-To-Market (Sales, Marketing, Partnerships), Research, and Operations to drive operational planning, financial forecasting, and performance management for our B2B endeavors.
- • Furthermore, we provide critical decision-quality insights regarding B2B product and financial performance, which are essential for informing strategic resource allocation decisions and ensuring that investments are directed towards the highest-potential areas.
- • A key focus is on building the foundational financial infrastructure and processes required to scale and accelerate the growth of our B2B offerings, establishing the "0→1" financial frameworks necessary for sustained expansion and market leadership.
- • This role is ideal for individuals who are deeply analytical, possess strong strategic thinking capabilities, and can independently drive initiatives while fostering collaborative partnerships with senior B2B leaders. We are actively seeking candidates for multiple positions across B2B Product Finance, GTM Finance, and Central Finance functions.
- • The ideal candidate will demonstrate a proactive, "roll up your sleeves" mentality, coupled with the ability to navigate and thrive in an environment characterized by ambiguity and rapid change. A deep enthusiasm for the advancement and responsible deployment of AI, and a strong alignment with OpenAI’s mission to ensure that artificial general intelligence benefits all of humanity, are highly valued.
