- • As a Substation Site Development Engineer at ICF, you will play a pivotal role in the foundational stages of high-voltage substation projects, focusing on the critical civil engineering aspects that ensure safe, reliable, and efficient construction. This fully remote position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to modern grid challenges from anywhere in the US, working with a team dedicated to client success and continuous process improvement.
- • Your primary responsibility will be the design and preparation of comprehensive site development deliverables for substations ranging from 12kV to 500kV. This includes intricate substation site grading plans, ensuring optimal land utilization and constructability.
- • You will be instrumental in developing robust stormwater management plans, performing essential hydrologic and hydraulic calculations, and authoring detailed drainage reports to comply with environmental regulations and ensure effective water management on site.
- • The role demands expertise in designing and implementing effective erosion and sediment control plans, crucial for environmental protection during and after construction.
- • You will be responsible for the layout and design of access roads, ensuring safe and practical ingress and egress for construction and maintenance vehicles.
- • A key aspect of your work will involve yard layout coordination and site optimization, working closely with other engineering disciplines to maximize the efficiency and functionality of the substation footprint.
- • You will design drainage systems, including the sizing of culverts and the design of ditches and berms, to manage surface water effectively and prevent potential issues.
- • The design of oil containment systems, such as berms, trenches, and impervious liners, will be a critical part of your responsibilities to prevent environmental contamination.
- • You will also prepare substation site demolition and restoration plans, ensuring a responsible approach to site management throughout the project lifecycle.
- • Developing Bills of Materials based on established design criteria will be essential for procurement and construction planning.
- • Collaboration is key in this role. You will work closely with electrical physical design, structural, and protection & controls teams to ensure seamless integration of civil site development with other engineering disciplines.
- • You will be tasked with integrating geotechnical recommendations into the site design, ensuring that soil conditions and stability are adequately addressed.
- • Supporting the preparation of permitting documentation for stormwater, erosion control, floodplain, and other civil requirements will be a significant part of your contribution.
- • You will have the opportunity to participate in client meetings, presenting design concepts and addressing concerns, and may be required to perform site visits to gather information or assess conditions.
- • Interpreting and incorporating vendor and contractor information into design deliverables will ensure that the designs are practical and aligned with construction realities.
- • A strong adherence to client standards and rigorous application of all Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) processes are expected to maintain the highest standards of work.
- • You will be encouraged to engage in continuous improvement, actively seeking to enhance your engineering knowledge, technical skills, and professional capabilities.
- • The ideal candidate is a proactive, self-sufficient engineer who takes pride in their work, meets deadlines, and can productively work remotely without direct supervision.
- • You should possess a strong desire to expand your knowledge base and refine work processes to boost quality and efficiency, contributing to the team's overall success.
- • As an active team member, you will prioritize group goals and demonstrate excellent collaboration skills, embracing new responsibilities and learning new skill sets as needed.
