ďż˝ Description
- • Own the full lifecycle of The Athletic’s commercially supported video slate—from the first creative spark in an RFP response to the final export that lands on a brand partner’s YouTube channel. You will be the single point of accountability for budgets, timelines, creative integrity, and editorial standards.
- • Translate complex editorial stories into sponsor-friendly concepts that still feel 100 % Athletic. You’ll sit shoulder-to-shoulder with our 500-person newsroom to identify the narratives that matter most to fans, then re-imagine them as premium video packages that delight both viewers and commercial partners.
- • Build and curate a nationwide network of best-in-class freelancers—DPs, audio engineers, colorists, animators, gaffers, and drone ops—negotiating rates, booking travel, and ensuring every crew member arrives briefed, insured, and ready to execute at the highest level.
- • Shepherd multiple concurrent productions (field shoots, studio tapings, live event coverage, and quick-turn social cut-downs) without ever letting quality slip. You’ll juggle call sheets, location permits, COI paperwork, and post calendars while keeping stakeholders updated in real time.
- • Serve as the final creative checkpoint. You’ll review every rough cut, color pass, and audio mix for narrative clarity, brand compliance, and The Athletic’s unmistakable tone—then deliver concise, actionable feedback that elevates the work and respects deadlines.
- • Pitch bold, original ideas in response to incoming RFPs. Whether it’s a 90-second TikTok doc, a six-part docuseries, or a cinematic 30-second spot, you’ll craft treatments, mood boards, and production budgets that win business and set new creative benchmarks for the industry.
- • Collaborate across departments—video, editorial, programming, social, revenue ops, and legal—to ensure every frame we publish is optimized for distribution, monetization, and long-term brand equity. You’ll translate analytics into creative insights and vice versa.
- • Occasionally grab a camera or jump into Premiere yourself when the story demands it. While your primary role is leadership, your hands-on skills keep you fluent in the tools your team uses every day.
- • Champion a culture of experimentation. You’ll pilot new formats (vertical video, AR graphics, live-to-tape hybrids), test emerging tech (remote production kits, cloud-based workflows), and share learnings in weekly show-and-tell sessions that inspire the entire Creative Studios group.
- • Protect the integrity of The Athletic’s journalism. You’ll enforce editorial firewalls, ensure sponsor messaging never compromises reporting, and mentor junior producers on ethical best practices.
- • Report on production KPIs—budget burn, delivery timelines, view-through rates, and partner satisfaction—turning raw numbers into narratives that secure renewals and bigger budgets for next season.
