📋 Description

• As a Technical Program Manager for AI Delivery in Public Sector & Defence at Cohere, you will serve as the critical bridge between cutting-edge AI technology and the stringent requirements of UK and EMEA government and defence organizations, ensuring secure, compliant, and impactful deployment of frontier models in high-stakes environments.
• You will own end-to-end technical program delivery for public sector and defence customers across the UK and EMEA, managing complex deployments from initial pilot through production scaling while navigating unique government procurement cycles, security authorisations, data sovereignty rules, and ministerial approval processes.
• Day to day, you will act as the primary technical point of contact for government customers, building trusted relationships with CIOs, IT directors, and technical teams in ministerial departments, public bodies, agencies, and defence organisations, translating their mission-critical needs into actionable engineering plans.
• You will translate complex government requirements — including UK GDPR/DPA, accessibility standards, bilingualism obligations, security classifications, and Algorithmic Impact Assessments — into clear technical specifications for Cohere’s engineering, product, and Applied ML teams.
• You will coordinate cross-functional efforts across Engineering, Forward Deployed Engineering (FDE), Platform, Product, and Go-to-Market teams to deliver AI solutions that meet government-grade security, privacy, accessibility, and performance standards in cloud, on-premises, hybrid, or air-gapped environments.
• You will create and manage detailed project schedules that align with government timelines, security review processes, and contractual obligations, identifying and mitigating risks related to compliance, data handling, model governance, and international data transfers.
• You will present technical roadmaps, status updates, and risk assessments to senior government officials and departmental executives, translating advanced AI/ML concepts into clear, objective language suitable for non-technical decision-makers.
• You will represent Cohere’s technical capabilities in sensitive government and defence contexts, supporting RFP responses, security authorisation processes, and governance submissions such as Treasury Board or equivalent reviews.
• You will drive alignment between Cohere’s product development priorities and specific government requirements, ensuring that model customisation, fine-tuning, security hardening, and integration efforts are prioritised correctly.
• You will establish governance checkpoints and technical review processes appropriate for high-stakes government deployments, including model validation, bias testing, explainability checks, and audit trails.
• You will problem-solve complex technical challenges in regulated environments, such as securing model inference pipelines, enabling secure data pipelines, and ensuring compliance with Protected B/C or equivalent standards.
• You will contribute to Cohere’s mission of scaling intelligence to serve humanity by helping government organisations adopt AI responsibly — enhancing public services, national security, and critical infrastructure while upholding ethics, transparency, and accountability.
• You will grow your expertise at the intersection of frontier AI and public sector innovation, developing deep specialised knowledge in AI ethics, algorithmic impact assessment, secure AI deployment, and government technology transformation — positioning yourself as a trusted advisor in one of the most impactful domains of AI application.

🎯 Requirements

• 7+ years of experience as an Engineering or Technical Program Manager
• At least 2 years in customer-facing technical delivery and operations for enterprise-grade software or AI/ML solutions
• Experience working with government, defence, or heavily regulated customers (public sector, defence contractors)
• Strong understanding of enterprise software deployment architectures (cloud, on-premises, hybrid, air-gapped)
• Deep understanding of how government organisations procure, evaluate, and deploy technology, including familiarity with UK or German data sovereignty, privacy laws, and security classifications
• Eligible to obtain UK or German government security clearance (Top Secret preferred)
