đź“‹ Description
- • As the UK General Manager at Bolt Pharmacy, you will be instrumental in building and scaling the critical physical and logistical infrastructure that underpins our fast, safe, and high-quality patient delivery service. This is a pivotal role where you will assume complete ownership of our UK operations, from the existing pharmacy setup to the strategic design and successful launch of our next-generation, state-of-the-art facility. Your primary objective will be to architect and implement the systems and processes that will enable us to scale from our current capacity to an ambitious target of 35,000 orders per day, ensuring operational excellence and preventing chaos.
- • You will be responsible for streamlining every facet of the dispensing process, identifying opportunities for automation to enhance efficiency, and establishing a clear, optimized workflow that spans receiving, checking, packing, and final handoff. A key focus will be on strengthening our cold chain capabilities and inventory security measures, implementing robust scan-based verification systems, and ensuring the entire operation is meticulously prepared to handle a tenfold increase in volume.
- • At its core, this role demands a leader who can effectively manage the day-to-day operations within the facility, demonstrating exceptional people management skills. This includes the end-to-end responsibility for hiring, comprehensive training, strategic scheduling, diligent performance management, and the capacity to make difficult decisions when necessary. You will be tasked with setting clear, high standards for the on-site team, fostering a culture that champions pace, precision, and unwavering accountability.
- • Continuous process improvement and maximizing throughput will be central to your mission. You will relentlessly seek ways to enhance how work is executed, driving micro-optimizations in facility layout, tooling, and workflow design to significantly increase throughput without compromising quality. You will own the strategic roadmap for scaling operations from the current state through to 10,000, 20,000, and ultimately 35,000 orders per day.
- • Daily facility operations will fall under your purview, ensuring the smooth running of the building. This encompasses managing suppliers, coordinating pickups, overseeing equipment maintenance, upholding stringent safety protocols, and ensuring site readiness at all times. You will guarantee the operation remains stable, fully compliant with all regulations, and resilient, even when faced with unexpected spikes in demand or unforeseen issues.
- • Achieving great performance in this role means ensuring the site operates seamlessly at scale, with error rates consistently trending downwards, order fulfillment speed increasing, and the team possessing the capacity to absorb rapid growth without succumbing to chaos or burnout. This is a full-time, UK-based position, requiring flexibility for occasional meetings during midday Pacific Time for essential cross-functional collaboration.
- • You will report directly to the Head of CX & Ops, Jordan Pellikan, and will work in close collaboration with key stakeholders including Richie (CEO), Saim (UK Lead), and Ben Dowdle (Head of Product), contributing to the strategic direction and operational success of Bolt Pharmacy.
- • Key responsibilities include taking full ownership of the new UK site designed to accommodate 35,000 daily orders, ensuring its efficient and effective operation. You will oversee day-to-day execution across the entire facility, guaranteeing smooth daily operations and building robust systems and routines for reliable dispensing, packing, and delivery at scale.
- • You will own end-to-end cold chain integrity as volume grows, managing capacity planning, continuous monitoring, and developing effective failure response strategies. Furthermore, you will enhance physical security and stock control for high-value inventory, taking ownership of throughput, error rates, and Service Level Agreements (SLAs), leveraging key metrics to inform daily operational decisions.
- • Building and leading a high-performing operations team is paramount. This involves defining clear structures, ownership, and station responsibilities on the floor, as well as hiring, training, and coaching team members to achieve consistency, speed, and quality. You will actively manage performance, address underperformance proactively, and make necessary personnel decisions.
- • Establishing daily reporting mechanisms, operating rhythms, and clear escalation paths will be crucial for maintaining operational visibility and control. You will drive continuous process improvement and throughput by refining workflows across all operational stages and leading micro-optimizations in layout, tooling, and standard work to boost efficiency without sacrificing quality.
- • Scaling the operation in defined stages (current state, 10k, 20k, 35k orders per day) will be a key objective, with a pragmatic approach to evaluating and piloting automation and tooling only where it demonstrably reduces errors or manual workload. Prioritizing reliability and execution over complex or experimental technology builds is essential.
- • Ensuring delivery reliability at scale, owning outbound performance, and coordinating effectively with logistics partners will be critical. You will ensure delivery remains predictable and resilient as order volume increases, and swiftly escalate and resolve issues to safeguard the patient experience.
🎯 Requirements
- • Proven experience scaling a fulfillment or distribution site to at least 10,000 orders per day, with a demonstrated ability to transition a site from hundreds to thousands of orders daily without operational chaos.
- • Strong background in process and layout design, including mapping end-to-end workflows (receiving, dispensing, checking, packing, handoff), balancing station capacities, and identifying and mitigating failure points. Ability to design efficient floor layouts for speed and clarity.
- • Expertise in security and stock control for high-value inventory, including access, storage, counting, reconciliation, and chain of custody procedures.
- • A clear cost and ROI mindset, focused on reducing cost per order while maintaining high standards for speed, quality, and compliance.
- • Demonstrated people leadership experience, including hiring effective leaders, building teams with high cultural standards, and establishing clear accountability, preferably in leading large teams (100+) in fast-paced operational environments like logistics or warehousing.
- • A proactive and ownership-driven approach, with a keen eye for spotting bottlenecks, redesigning workflows, and anticipating and resolving issues before they escalate.
- • Experience with UK logistics, including working with parcel carriers (e.g., DPD, Royal Mail) and 3PLs at scale, ensuring reliable pickups, manifests, and exception handling. Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with senior leadership at key partners.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Competitive salary of £100,000 - £150,000 per year, including equity participation.
- • Comprehensive medical insurance coverage.
- • Generous Paid Time Off (PTO) with a minimum of 2 weeks per year, in addition to local national holidays.
- • Personal development budget of £1,200 per year for books, courses, and coaching.
- • Personal wellness budget of £1,200 per year for gym memberships, health apps, and related activities.
- • Access to free bi-weekly health coaching sessions.
- • Provision of a Macbook and necessary work-from-home equipment.
