- • Oversees maintenance and repair operations for light vehicles and heavy equipment supporting the United States Antarctic Program, ensuring safety, efficiency, and compliance with manufacturer standards and industry best practices.
- • Directs daily workflow by setting deadlines, balancing workloads, assigning tasks, and monitoring progress to maintain operational readiness of critical equipment in extreme environments.
- • Manages budget, tracks performance metrics, trains staff, handles hiring recommendations, and ensures all personnel are qualified and safety-compliant for assigned tasks.
- • Part of a mission-critical operations team supporting scientific research in Antarctica, where reliable vehicle and equipment maintenance is essential for mission success and personnel safety in one of the world’s most challenging environments.
- • Develops leadership expertise in fleet management, safety compliance, and resource planning while gaining experience in extreme-condition logistics and federal contractor operations.
🎯 Requirements
- • Minimum of eight years’ experience in vehicle maintenance
- • Minimum of three years of experience at a supervisor level
- • Two years of training at a technical school
- • Solid knowledge of mechanical theory applied to commercial and special purpose vehicles, including hydraulics, electrical systems, and internal combustion engines
- • Proficient in risk and hazard assessment, safety standards, and implementing safe workplace programs
- • Ability to quickly learn and utilize computer-based labor, inventory, and maintenance tracking applications
