- • Compass Surgical Partners is seeking a highly strategic and results-oriented Vice President of Business Development – Same Store Growth (VP, SSG) to spearhead organic volume and revenue expansion across our nationwide ambulatory surgery center (ASC) portfolio. This critical role is designed to maximize the utilization and profitability of our existing centers by fostering deeper engagement with current physician investors, successfully onboarding new physician partners, and strategically activating case volume from non-investor physicians. The VP, SSG will operate with a disciplined, compliant, and repeatable approach, ensuring sustainable growth and enhanced value for all stakeholders.
- • This is a high-visibility, cross-functional leadership position that demands close collaboration with key internal departments including Operations, Clinical Leadership, Managed Care, Legal/Compliance, and Finance. The successful candidate will be instrumental in translating identified growth opportunities into tangible increases in case volume, significant margin expansion, and improved EBITDA, all while upholding Compass’s unwavering commitment to exceptional quality and stringent regulatory compliance. Given the extensive geographic footprint of our ASC network, candidates located in the Eastern U.S. will be given preference.
- • **Lead Same Store Growth Strategy:** You will be the architect and executor of Compass’s enterprise-wide Same Store Growth strategy, encompassing all managed ASCs. This involves developing sophisticated market- and center-specific growth plans meticulously tailored to increase case volume, optimize service-line mix, enhance Operating Room (OR) utilization, and drive contribution margin. Your ability to analyze physician demand, interpret market dynamics, and address capacity constraints will be crucial in formulating clear, actionable growth initiatives with precisely defined Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- • **Expand Utilization Among Current Physician Investors:** A core responsibility will be to deepen the utilization of our ASCs by current physician investors. This includes proactively identifying opportunities for increased case volume, addressing under-utilization and case leakage, expanding the scope of service offerings, and optimizing the allocation and scheduling of block time. You will work hand-in-hand with Operations and Clinical teams to systematically remove any operational barriers that hinder case growth. Furthermore, you will serve as a senior relationship lead for high-impact physician investors, focusing on cultivating partnerships that yield significant and measurable growth outcomes.
- • **Recruit and Activate New Physician Investors:** You will play a pivotal role in identifying and onboarding new physician investors who are strategically aligned with our key service lines, possess strong growth potential, and embody Compass’s high standards for quality and culture. This process requires close partnership with our Corporate Development, Legal, and Finance departments to navigate the complexities of buy-in structuring, ensure adherence to fair market value principles, and manage a seamless onboarding experience. Crucially, your focus will extend beyond financial investment to ensure that new investors are fully activated operationally, contributing meaningfully to the center’s success.
- • **Grow Utilization from Non-Investor Physicians:** This role involves designing and scaling innovative programs to attract and activate case volume from a diverse range of physicians, including hospital-aligned physicians, independent practitioners, and those new to the market. You will collaborate closely with our Managed Care team to ensure alignment on payer access, favorable economics, and the feasibility of expanding specific service lines. A critical aspect of this responsibility is ensuring that all growth strategies are developed and implemented in strict compliance with Stark Law, the Anti-Kickback Statute, and all applicable state regulations.
- • **Scale Service Lines and Programs:** You will be instrumental in identifying, developing, and expanding high-value service lines that are critical to our portfolio’s success, such as orthopedic subspecialties, spine, cardiac, GI, and ophthalmology. This includes supporting the launch of new procedures, driving growth through the adoption of innovative equipment, and strategically reallocating block time to maximize efficiency and revenue. Close partnership with Operations and Clinical leaders will be essential to guarantee staffing readiness and maintain rigorous quality oversight for all new and expanded services.
- • **Drive Cross-Functional Execution:** As the central connector, you will facilitate seamless collaboration between Business Development, Operations, Clinical, Finance, Managed Care, and Legal departments. Your role is to ensure that all growth initiatives are meticulously structured, thoroughly documented, and demonstrably defensible from a compliance perspective. You will be responsible for driving initiatives from strategic conception through to efficient and effective execution.
- • **Measure Performance and Communicate Results:** You will own and meticulously track key Same Store Growth metrics, including case growth rates, OR utilization percentages, contribution margin improvements, overall EBITDA impact, and physician activation timelines. Providing regular, comprehensive updates to executive leadership on pipeline progress, performance against strategic plans, and potential risks, along with well-defined mitigation strategies, will be a core function of this role.
