📋 Description
- • Teach an eight-week online course in Heritage Spanish Teaching Methodology during Summer 2026 at The Ohio State University.
- • Deliver instruction using current best practices in second language pedagogy aligned with ACTFL standards.
- • Focus specifically on pedagogical approaches for Heritage Spanish learners, addressing their unique linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
- • Utilize synchronous online tools to facilitate effective language instruction in a virtual learning environment.
- • Design and implement curriculum that reflects expertise in Heritage Spanish language acquisition and teaching.
- • Demonstrate excellence in teaching through evidence-based classroom practices and student-centered methodologies.
- • Engage with the academic community in alignment with Ohio State’s Shared Values: Excellence and Impact, Diversity and Innovation, Inclusion and Equity, Care and Compassion, and Integrity and Respect.
- • Prepare and submit a teaching philosophy statement that explicitly connects Heritage Language (L2) teaching to classroom instruction.
- • Collaborate with campus units such as ODI, Latina/o Studies, and CLAS to support Heritage Spanish-speaking communities.
- • Maintain professional standards consistent with a Visiting Assistant Professor role in a top-20 public university.
- • Complete all application requirements including a cover letter, curriculum vitae (CV), and teaching philosophy statement.
- • Adhere to university policies regarding application submission via Workday, including document formatting guidelines (no resumes or CVs exceeding one page).
- • Participate in any required post-offer processes, including background checks and potential drug screening or physical examination.
- • Work a scheduled 20 hours per week during the eight-week Summer 2026 term, primarily during the First Shift.
- • Operate in a fully remote capacity with no on-campus presence required.
🎯 Requirements
- • PhD in Spanish, Foreign and Second Language Teaching, or a related discipline
- • Native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English, with demonstrated proficiency in Heritage Spanish
- • Record of excellence in teaching Heritage Spanish
- • Strong understanding of current best practices in second language pedagogy and familiarity with ACTFL standards
