- • Transcribe native Chichewa/Nyanja audio recordings into verbatim transcripts, including non-verbal sounds, overlaps, pauses, and speech disfluencies as specified in annotation guidelines.
- • Translate verbatim Chichewa/Nyanja transcripts into natural, fluent English while preserving meaning, tone, cultural context, and spoken language nuances.
- • Review and correct previously transcribed or translated content for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to quality standards.
- • Perform dual-role tasks when assigned: converting raw audio → Chichewa/Nyanja transcript → English translation within a single workflow.
- • Follow detailed linguistic annotation protocols for speech-to-text and translation tasks, ensuring consistency across all deliverables.
- • Deliver high-quality outputs on time, meeting minimum expectations of 2 hours per day or 10 hours per week as required by project demand.
- • Provide structured feedback on linguistic anomalies, ambiguous utterances, or guideline inconsistencies encountered during transcription or translation.
- • Work independently as an independent contractor with full autonomy over schedule, workload, and work hours—no fixed shifts or mandatory check-ins.
- • Contribute to the development of AI and language technology systems used by enterprises, governments, and AI developers globally.
- • Engage with a global community of linguists and language professionals on diverse, real-world projects that advance human-machine communication.
- • Maintain reliable access to stable internet and audio playback equipment to ensure consistent task completion and quality output.
- • Adhere to Lilt’s privacy and data handling policies when processing sensitive audio and text data.
- • Accept responsibility for own tax obligations as a 1099 contractor, with no employer-provided benefits such as health insurance, paid time off, or retirement contributions.
- • Participate in optional qualification tests to demonstrate proficiency in Chichewa/Nyanja transcription and/or translation before onboarding.
- • Update and submit an English-language CV as part of the application process to be considered for project assignments.
- • Remain eligible for engagement under international sanctions regulations; contractors in embargoed regions will not be onboarded.
🎯 Requirements
- • Native-level proficiency in Chichewa/Nyanja
- • Graduate qualification in translation, linguistics, or language studies OR graduate qualification in another field plus 2 years of full-time professional translation experience OR 5 years of full-time professional translation experience
- • Prior experience with spoken language transcription is a strong advantage
